LEAD INSTRUCTORMIKE JENSEN

Mike attended Knoxville High School, earning All-State awards as a Sophomore pitcher. Missed entire Junior year with a shoulder injury. Had recontructive shoulder surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama. Returned as a Senior hitter to receive 1st Team All-State awards.
Attended Kirkwood Community College (NJCAA), North Carolina State University (NCAA1) and Oklahoma City University (NAIA). Hit over 40 Home Runs, played in two NCAA Regionals and played for nationally ranked teams all 4 years. Had a chance to work with some of the best coaches and play with & against some of the best players in the world. Has worked camps, clinics and given private lessons all over the country and maintains many contacts in collegiate baseball & softball and professional baseball. Teaches baseball & softball hitting and baseball pitching.

SOFTBALL INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP LESSONSEMMA RICHARDS

Emma is from Waukee, Iowa and grew up playing softball around the Des Moines area. Prior to college, she played club softball for Iowa Premier Fastpitch where she helped her team to a 1st place finish at PGF Nationals in 2019 and a top 10 finish in 2020. Nationally, Emma was ranked as a top 80 pitching recruit in her class. She furthered her education and athletic career at the D1 level attending Drake University in Des Moines. Throughout college, she worked several camps with athletes of all ages looking to compete at the next level. Her lessons focus not only on the physical side of the game, but the mental side as well, improving each athlete’s ability to compete and succeed.

BASEBALL INSTRUCTORTYLER PEYTON

Tyler graduated from Dallas Center Grimes where he was an elite all-state performer and helped DCG win the 2012 3A State Title. Tyler went on to play at the University of Iowa finishing his career 9th in innings pitched (239.0) & strikeouts (166) and 10th in career singles (133). Tyler was a 3rd team All-American as a utility player and was a semi-finalist for the two-way player of the year his junior year. Tyler was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2015 and the Chicago Cubs in 2016. Tyler played in the Cubs orgainzation for 4 years.

2022-23 at Des Moines Area Community College
•          2022 NJCAA First Team All-American
•          Had 90 hits in 161 at-bats for a .559 batting average
•          Had a season-high 18 game hit streak in 2022

Transferred to The University of Alabama after her time at Des Moines Area Community College

2024 – Played in 43 games, including 35 starts
2025 – currently finishing up season at Alabama

•    I want to help younger athletes learn and grow faster by sharing tips and things I’ve picked up from my own experience.
•    I like being a positive role model—someone they can look up to, ask questions, and feel supported by.

Kendal also takes great pride in the mental side of the sport. With her own personal experience of utilizing a sports psychologist, Kendal is passionate about the mental game. “Strengthening your mental game because I have recognized that performance isn’t just physical—it’s also mental. Training the mind—through focus, stress management, and confidence-building—is just as important as physical preparation.”

Drake Women’s Softball holds its media day on January 30th, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming season.

SOFTBALL INSTRUCTORSAMI MILLER

– Started 51 of Drake’s 52 games at shortstop in her first season after transferring from DMACC where I helped lead DMACC to a 52-14 record and a seventh-straight trip to the NJCAA Division II Softball Championships
– scored 24 runs and drove in 12 more … logged an even 10 extra-base hits including eight doubles, a triple, and a home run
– .920% fielding percentage at Drake only having 8 errors at shortstop

– Undergraduate degree of Kinesiology and getting a Master’s in Athletic Training

– I take a lot of pride in the mental aspect of the game and making sure that we are enjoying the sport and having fun as we make growth through the game. After dealing with an injury having to take a medical red shirt my senior season at Drake I am a firm believer in the mental aspect of the game.

– I am returning back to Drake to take 5th year and finish softball collegiate career

– Going into my 3rd year coaching softball at Ankeny Centennial High School

Makayla a recent 2024 graduate and softball player at Drake University where she was a 4-year starter as a utility player.  I would love to continue my passion for the game by providing lessons, both defensively and offensively to help develop young athletes to the next level.

High School/Travel Ball – 4-year letter winner for Lee’s Summit HS, 3-time all-district and all-conference selection, Utility player for the Demarini Aces KCMO (2016-2020)

College – Freshman stater at SS, 3B, & C; Sophomore year at OF, 3B, & C; Junior year at OF & C; Senior year at OF & 3B. All MVC Second Team 2024

CATCHING/HITTING INSTRUCTORGEHRIG CHRISTENSEN

Gehrig is available for catching or hitting instruction.  He attended Urbandale High School where he was a two-time state champion and three-time all-state selection earning DM Register all-Iowa Elite Team as a senior, first-team 4A as a junior and second-team honors as a sophomore. Ranked as a top-500 player nationally by Perfect Game and the sixth-best player in Iowa 2021 by Prep Baseball Report.  He still holds multiple records at UHS including all-time records in hits, doubles, and walks.  Gehrig was a member of the Iowa Hawkeye baseball team in 2022 & 2023.

Mel is a former MLB player and an instructor for over 25 years.  Mel’s goal is to provide the best comprehensive instruction that ultimately provides significant long lasting athletic improvement.  Too often coaches focus too much on individual skills and neglect other vitally important skills such as key terminologies, footwork, body control, as well as speed, agility, quickness, and muscular development.  That is why as a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist I offer all training modalities for athletic development – including Performance/Speed and Agility Classes in addition to individual/class hitting/fielding instruction.  To contact Mel please text or call him at 850-630-5884
